Ap Verhoeven is a Dutch drummer associated with Rotterdam’s adventurous contemporary jazz and improvised music scene. He was part of the original formation of pianist and composer Filippo Deorsola’s trio Anaphora, alongside double bassist Jonathan Ho Chin Kiat. The trio’s music deliberately moves beyond conventional jazz structures, combining composition, free improvisation, shifting rhythmic ideas and a genre-fluid approach. Verhoeven appears on Anaphora’s 2022 debut album Lexicon I, released on the Italian Auand label. Within the trio, his drumming contributes to an interactive approach in which rhythm, form and improvisation are constantly reshaped, giving the music its exploratory and unpredictable character.

Filippo Deorsola

Filippo Deorsola is an Italian-Belgian pianist, composer and interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the boundaries between composition and improvisation. A cum laude graduate of Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, Deorsola combines jazz with experimental approaches, cyclical structures, unconventional textures and influences from non-European musical traditions. As the founder and leader of Anaphora, Deorsola released the acclaimed debut Lexicon I in 2022, followed by Bloom. The trio won the prestigious Keep an Eye The Records competition in 2024, praised for its originality, rhythmic imagination and distinctive musical identity. Deorsola’s work often features prepared piano and objects, expanding the instrument far beyond its conventional role.

John Marshall is a trumpeter and flugelhorn player from New York, born in 1952. His career includes extensive work with jazz greats such as Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis, and Dizzy Gillespie, alongside studies with brass teachers Carmine Caruso and Lonnie Hillyer. From 1992 to 2017, he was a prominent soloist with the West Deutscher Rundfunk Big Band, touring and recording internationally. Marshall has released twelve albums as a leader and is also recognised for his recent development as a vocalist.

Jonathan Ho Chin Kiat

Jonathan Ho Chin Kiat is a Singaporean double bassist based in the Netherlands and active across the European contemporary jazz scene. A graduate of Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam, he has developed a highly versatile approach that combines a strong rhythmic foundation with melodic playing and adventurous improvisation. He has worked with ensembles including Anaphora and the Andrew Moreno Trio and has performed across Europe, Asia and Latin America. In 2024, the Andrew Moreno Trio won the Erasmus Jazz Prize, while Anaphora was among the winners of Keep an Eye The Records. Ho Chin Kiat can also be heard on Andrew Moreno’s 2025 album Axiom, where his expressive acoustic bass playing forms a central part of the trio’s sound.

Dutch bassist, composer, arranger and educator Joris Teepe is one of Europe’s most internationally respected jazz musicians. After graduating from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, he moved to New York in 1992, where he quickly established himself on the international jazz scene. Over the years, he has performed and recorded with jazz legends including Benny Golson, Lee Konitz, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman and spent nine years as a member of the Rashied Ali Quintet. Besides leading his own ensembles and big band, Teepe serves as Head of Jazz Studies at the Prins Claus Conservatoire, continuing to inspire the next generation of jazz musicians.

Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has become renowned for his rich harmonic language, lyrical improvisation and innovative approach to the instrument. Strongly influenced by Milt Jackson, Nelson has helped redefine the role of the vibraphone in contemporary jazz. A graduate of Rutgers University, Nelson has enjoyed long-standing collaborations with some of jazz’s most celebrated artists, including Dave Holland, Kenny Barron, Jackie McLean, Bobby Watson, Mulgrew Miller, Johnny Griffin and George Shearing. As a member of Dave Holland’s Quintet and Big Band, he appeared on numerous award-winning recordings and performed at leading concert halls and jazz festivals around the world. In addition to his acclaimed performing career, Nelson is a dedicated educator who has taught at Princeton University, William Paterson University, and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. His warm, expressive sound and masterful musicianship have established him as one of the defining voices of modern jazz vibraphone.
